Our Commitment to Child Safety

At Grooveability, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our absolute priority. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where all children can thrive and enjoy dance.

This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that every child who participates in our classes is safe from harm.

1. Policy Statement

Grooveability is committed to:

  • Protecting children from abuse, neglect, and harm
  • Creating a safe environment for all children
  • Ensuring all staff and volunteers are properly vetted and trained
  • Following statutory guidance and best practices
  • Working in partnership with parents, carers, and relevant agencies
  • Taking immediate action when concerns arise
2. Designated Safeguarding Lead

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is responsible for:

  • Overseeing all safeguarding matters
  • Ensuring staff are trained and supported
  • Liaising with external agencies
  • Maintaining safeguarding records
  • Reviewing and updating policies

3. Staff and Volunteer Vetting

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Complete an enhanced DBS check
  • Provide two professional references
  • Undergo safeguarding training
  • Sign our code of conduct
  • Complete regular refresher training

Ongoing Monitoring

  • Regular supervision and support
  • Annual DBS renewal checks
  • Continuous professional development
  • Performance reviews including safeguarding
4. Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Treat all children with respect and dignity
  • Maintain appropriate physical boundaries
  • Never be alone with a child in private
  • Use appropriate language and behavior
  • Report any concerns immediately
  • Follow our photography and social media policies

Prohibited Behaviors

  • Physical punishment or restraint
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Sharing personal contact details with children
  • Meeting children outside of organized activities
  • Taking photographs without permission
5. Recognizing Signs of Abuse

Our staff are trained to recognize signs of:

Physical Abuse

  • Unexplained injuries or bruises
  • Injuries that don't match explanations
  • Fear of physical contact
  • Aggressive or withdrawn behavior

Emotional Abuse

  • Low self-esteem or confidence
  • Excessive anxiety or fear
  • Developmental delays
  • Self-harm or suicidal thoughts

Neglect

  • Poor hygiene or appearance
  • Inappropriate clothing for weather
  • Frequent absences
  • Hunger or lack of food

Sexual Abuse

  • Inappropriate sexual knowledge or behavior
  • Physical signs of abuse
  • Sudden changes in behavior
  • Fear of specific people or places
6. Reporting Procedures

If You Have Concerns

  1. Immediate Action: If a child is in immediate danger, call 999
  2. Report to DSL: Contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead
  3. Document: Record all concerns and actions taken
  4. Follow Up: Ensure appropriate support is provided

7. Photography and Social Media

Photography Policy

  • Written consent required for all photography
  • Photos only taken by authorized staff
  • No individual photos without specific consent

  • Parents can opt out at any time

Social Media Guidelines

  • No personal contact with children on social media
  • Official accounts only for business purposes
  • No sharing of children's personal information
  • Professional boundaries maintained online
8. Health and Safety

Physical Safety

  • Risk assessments for all activities and venues
  • First aid trained staff present at all sessions
  • Emergency procedures clearly displayed
  • Appropriate equipment and facilities
  • Regular safety inspections

Medical Information

  • Medical and allergy information collected and updated
  • Emergency contact details always available
  • Medication administration procedures
  • Health conditions considered in activity planning
9. Training and Development

All staff receive comprehensive safeguarding training including:

  • Recognizing signs of abuse and neglect
  • Reporting procedures and responsibilities
  • Working with children with SEND
  • Online safety and digital safeguarding
  • Prevent duty and radicalization awareness
  • First aid and emergency procedures
10. Policy Review

This safeguarding policy is reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, guidance, or our practices. All staff and volunteers are informed of any updates and receive additional training as required.
